Hong Kong Disneyland
Review and Rating on Hong Kong Disneyland

How wonderful is the big picture of Hong Kong Disneyland?

Kids are always happy with Mickey!
Spending – 1
Visiting the Disney theme parks is never cheap, especially when you are visiting as a family with 2 adults, 2 kids, and a few cousins. Comparing to the general price levels in Hong Kong, there seems to be a lot of other entertainment options that may worth more the money. Food and drinks are also not cheap inside the park – but you can always bring your own (with some skills and technique). However if you have young kids and have a lot of energy, the few hundred Hong Kong dollars pay well for waking up excited from the morning till exhausted from the fireworks at night. Most importantly, the kids’ laughter’s are priceless, aren’t they?

Who wanna miss the show? NO ONE!!

The Disneyland Hong Kong may be the smallest Disney theme park in the world, yet it is also very compact with attractions and Disney characters every few steps away. You will be quite disappointed if you compare the Disneyland Hong Kong to its counterparts in the States or even in Japan, but it will certainly feel better if you try to expect the Disneyland Hong Kong as a cute version of the park. Although Disneyland Hong Kong is the smallest in the world, its Adventure Land is the biggest amongst all Disney parks. It features a large island area home to Tarzan’s treehouse, which indeed matches very well with the hot and humid Hong Kong weather. The Disneyland Hong Kong is still under its first phases of expansions, so there is a lot to look forward to, but also mean that it’s still always under construction.

MTR can easily get you there

The MTR to Disneyland is special designed to Disney Style !
Convenience – 4
The Hong Kong Disneyland is very convenient. It is located on the Lantau Island right next to the Hong Kong International Airport. If Hong Kong is just your point of transit to another country, the Hong Kong Disneyland is still very accessible. If you are staying in the city center, the MTR (metro) takes you all the way to the Disney gate from Hong Kong station or Kowloon station. At Hong Kong station you can even pick up your park tickets too. A change to the Disney Resort Line is needed at the Sunny Bay station, but the whole trip from city center only takes around half an hour. Stepping on Disney Resort Line you have already started your magical adventure – it’s Mickey everywhere in the train – the handles, the train windows, everywhere!

History / Culture – 1
The Hong Kong Disneyland was opened in September 2005 and doesn’t have much of a history. Except during Chinese New Year, the park does not really have much of a Chinese theme either. The talking points were more on the political side – the controversy on how the Hong Kong Government supported and funded the opening of the theme park. The visitor count for the park was disappointing and forced the park to power itself up with festive celebrations, which became the unique culture of Disneyland in Hong Kong. One of the world’s exclusive is the Disney’s Haunted Halloween, the only frightening walk-through attraction in the magic kingdoms.

Hong Kong Disneyland is always extremely crowded …
Overall – 2
The Hong Kong Disneyland received more critics than compliments throughout the years, mainly around its long waiting time and mess. It’s certainly not a fun thing to line up for hours under the heat. It might be wise to avoid visiting the Park during school holidays and long weekends.

The fireworks show are played every night !
